VariFuel3

The new VariFuel3 air/gas mixer is based on the general operating principle of the VariFuel2 series, but was improved from the design perspective.
The installation of the one-piece flow bodies, for example, will be possible without completely dismantling the gas/air mixer.

Varifuel3 air/gas mixers are suitable for a wide range of gas types:

  •      Natural gas
  •      Biogas
  •      Landfill gas
  •      Sewage gas
  •      Wood gas
  •      Wellhead gas
  •      Mine gas

General Features

  •      More precise regulation for all fuel types, thanks to more precise fuel ring design
  •      Cast body and inlet parts,
  •      Optimizing/reducing the number of available flow bodies,
  •      Simplified assembly thanks to reduced weight and number of parts reduces costs and assembly time.
  •      New bayonet connection increases stability,
  •      Full compatibility with VariFuel2 and VariFuel2+ inlet and outlet flanges,
  •      Compatible with MOTORTECH VariStep and VariStep3.

Basic Design

The main task of a gas mixer is to mix fuel (gas) and air in such a way that optimum combustion occurs in the gas engine. High efficiency and low emissions in compliance with current regulations are the decisive parameters for optimization.

In VariFuel2, air and gas are mixed according to the Venturi principle. With the engine’s suction vacuum, air is sucked into the Venturi nozzle from the air inlet. Due to the Venturi principle, it creates a vacuum at the narrowest point and this vacuum draws the gas from the gas inlet. In this way, gas and air are mixed and released through the mixture outlet. Various mixer sizes and flow bodies (1) in the venturi nozzle allow different volumetric flows to be obtained.

Regulating the Air/Fuel Mixture

Fuel (gas) is directed to the nozzle through adjustable openings (2) in a fuel ring (3). The clearances of the fuel ring are adjusted via the drive belt (4) with a stepper motor. The stepper motor (5) can be controlled by the VariStep3 stepper motor driver, which can process signals from a master control. Additionally, VariFuel2 air/gas mixers are equipped with a port for an air pressure gauge and a connection for the pulse line of the zero pressure regulator.

VariFuel3 air/gas mixers are specifically designed for use with multiple gas-powered Otto engines and are generally based on the operating principle of the VariFuel2 series. The geometry of the on-board fuel ring tailored to the application improves engine starting behavior and enables control of the air-fuel ratio in multiple gas engine applications.
